Older Driver Assessment

THE OLDER DRIVER ASSESSMENT

IF YOU NEED TO RETAIN YOUR FULL DRIVERS LICENCE, YOU ARE REQUIRED TO PASS A PRACTICAL DRIVING ASSESSMENT. YOU CAN CHOOSE BETWEEN:
1. HOME ASSESSMENT
A driving assessment from your home, conducted by a licensed and accredited driving instructor. This assessment is on a ‘fee for service’ basis. You are able to choose any accredited driving instructor accredited to deliver the assessment.
2. THE DRIVING TEST
A driving test from a testing centre, conducted by a testing officer. This driving test is conducted by your local transport authority and provided at no charge, however there is a limit of 3 attempts at a driving test where as there is no limit on the number of driving assessments you can take with an accredited assessor.

THE PRACTICAL ASSESSMENT

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
The driving assessment from home and the driving test use the same assessment criteria. The practical on road drive has set requirements
DURATION OF ASSESSMENT
Generally you will be on the road for about 15 to 20 minutes in duration. During the assessment you will be directed where to drive.
ASSESSMENT RESULT
Your result will be based on your driving performance in a range of situations and your ability to demonstrate safe driving behaviours.
PLEASE NOTE
Some driving behaviours such as not stopping at a ‘Stop’ sign or speeding are deemed to be ‘high risk’. If you behave this way during the test you will not pass, regardless of your overall driving performance.
